Food Bites
aoki last night was, in one word, sublime - easily my best table for 2006 .....
got an e.mail from an associate in hong kong this afternoon thanking me for the "research" i put in to find out about this restaurant in gothenburg called Fond which we tried, tucked on the side of the concert hall .... she mentioned that she was still thinking about that superlative orange cream sauce that came with our crayfish starters. i think about it too *yum* - along with the potato gratin side dish flavoured with leek and ginger .....
valentino was excellent tonight. highlights were the tomino cheese wrapped in parma ham and then grilled, veal tonnato, a 850g cote de boeuf served on a verdant bed of rocket on a mini lazy susan shared between 3 people, and a gelato flamed with sambucco, washed down with a fragrant sicilian red. company was excellent too, talking about summer holidays on the normandy and amalfi coasts, holiday homes in tuscany and toulouse, macaroons from laduree, marron glaces from tokyo, shabu shabu and sushi restaurant finds in ginza....
the best part? someone was asking where we would like to live - France or Italy (most chose France) - when she asked her husband where he would prefer to be, he answered, "next to you" - sweet.....
