OP: Can anyone tell me why my fish died? [posts pic of dead fish that's bloated with tattered fins, the dorsal fins have turned black]
Person 1: Well, the black coloration on it is a sign of ammonia burns.
Me: Agreed that it's likely a water quality issue. This species of fish DOES tend to get black coloration, but not on its dorsal fin like this, mostly on the back end of its body, generally as a sign of readiness to breed.
Person 1: Not on their top fins! I've kept this species before. This is likely due to ammonia damage!
Me: 🙄🙄🙄🙄
like damn bitch i was agreeing with you. not to mention most of the other comments were completely misidentifying the fish species and calling it "[wrong species] disease" when it didn't show any symptoms of it and saying that "[wrong species] just die all the time for no reason!" when both this species and the actual species are incredibly hardy fish that can tolerate abysmal water conditions. if you can't keep a particular fish alive maybe DON'T try offering advice about its health?
