(no subject)
friday i walk into the lab and allison says- there's a message for you. We never have messages. nobody leaves messages.
Apparently, Cameco leaves messages.
They are closing their plant for scheduled maintenance (formerly scheduled for august) now on July 20-August 1. Right over 2 weeks of my three week experiment. This means that i have no mining effluent to kill my fish with. this means instead of starting my experiment June 15th and being done august 3. I am now starting my experiment august 6th and finishing August 27th. This means I don't get to take that vacation (aka. sit in my own yard for a week) after all this summer.
yay science....
well at least mike and i can go to ness creek now.
on a better note- I had a great (drunken) discussion about whether sex should be considered sacred or not last night. it's nice to have found some awesome new people to hang out with.
it's also great to have finished my dad's father's day present.
patons sws in natural navy. size 8 (cnd- these were old violent yellow knitting needles of my great-grandma's that my grandma gave me) 2 skeins- it's supposed to be short. It's a men's neck warmer to be folded into a coat. the yarn was so fun to watch as it came together into the squares.
it was the most fun I've had knitting in ages. i had to teach myself to be able to knit backwards so that I wouldn't ahve to flip the piece every two seconds. I'M SO CRAFTY!! BACKWARDS!!
The pattern 'popped' alot more before I blocked it. It totally looked like a basket, woven together. But the edges were all woob-elly so I blocked it square and lost some of the texture.
I actually like the texture of the back more. it's so funky. before I blocked it, it looked like (and felt) like egg cups in an egg carton, because the corners stuck up and the body of each rectangle was like a litte cup on the back.
I'm making another one, longer, for my cousin pam. she has chosen some exquisite baby alpaca which is a dream to knit with, but it's all one colour and therefor not so fun to knit. it will be absolutely gorgeous when it's done- like warm air wrapped around her neck. this is the kind of yarn i dream of rolling around naked in. ooops did i just say that out loud? :)
