I already posted a version of this on FB but this is more in-depth.
What happened actually started a mini-rift for me and kind of ruined the rest of my night because I didn't want to respond to the fact that again, for the second time, Matt didn't have his headphones on in a working order during free-play. We don't go communication-less at home, I don't know why someone would try to do it when gaming anywhere else. The game is not fun if you can't talk and that is how you fucking lose. so that in itself was annoying me really badly.
Then it kind of turned into "why didnt have the headphones on and listen to those fucking rude-mouthed fucks that rachel was so nice to in teh beginning and when it was too late it was already too late and I was upset"

It's sad that sexual harassment is expected and normal in the gaming community as soon as you put your headphones on.

And no, this isn't an exaggeration for attention.

Usually it's a "suck it up" moment but I'm tired of how I deal with it. I'm tired of feeling like I need to be a giant cunt eventually or someone needs to step in and save me. Why can't adults act like adults to other adults?

Yes, it's nice to be flirted with

and it's great to have people be nice to you.

Honestly I do enjoy flirting at almost all times in all situations and I do toss it back in most cases because it's nice.

And yes, you can "just be nice" about it even when it's turning fucking weird.

BUT.

It just seriously sucks that at a recent event I couldn't get through a single freeplay game without passing comments that turned into legit harassment when they were ignored ("Can you send nudes huhuh I bet they don't even put out on the first date. Man, forget these girls *but continue to bother us for fun*") from strangers we did not ask to play with and were initially accommodating to, while sitting next to our boyfriends who were on a different server. It only stopped when I WAS fucking rude as hell because I was finally shook. I know we sound cute, I get it, and we ARE fun when you want to PLAY THE GAME.

For the record, this NEVER escalates this way for me in person. I don't know how to project what little natural intimidation I seem to have over the stupid headphones but honestly I kind of never want to play with strangers ever again.
