I got back from Australia last week. It was pretty awesome. I arrived at Sydney on, I believe, November 18. I spent the next 7 days driving up the east coast of the country. It was pretty beautiful. Rolling hills/mountains, lots of farmland, rainforest, etc. The weather was perfect the entire time - upper 70s to mid 80s. I sat on beaches in every town I stopped in. I stopped in a bunch of small towns and confused people with my slow American accent. Driving on the wrong side of the road was really easy. Stopped in Byron Bay, Coff's Harbour, Coolangatta, and ended in Brisbane. I stood at the eastern most point of the country at Coff's Harbour.
From Brisbane I flew up to Cairns. Snorkelled at the Great Barrier Reef, where I saw a giant turtle swimming around. It was pretty chill. Went on a scenic railroad to Karunda. Then took the skyrail back to Cairns the next day. It took you over top the rainforest canopy which was kind of amazing. Went to two aboriginal things - the first was this weird Disney-esque thing where they had a play, showed you digeridos, let you throw spears and boomarangs, and the other was just this aboriginal guide who took you into the rainforest and showed you how plants were used for almost everything and where he was initiated as a man and some sort of cave art. That walk was kind of amazing.
Then back to Sydney for the last few days. Saw the opera house and the harbour and all that crap. Watched lots of cricket which I could probably live without forever, I think. It was so awesome. I wish I was still there. I miss it!
