The Pursuit of... birthday cake!
Well, my mom was too frazzled by the fact that my former stepfather was having an auction at our house to bake me a cake, so I had to do it myself. She has this amazing book called "The Cake Doctor" that has a whole bunch of cakes that start with a box mix that you add stuff to and make it delicious. It took me a couple of days to pick one, but I finally ended up with this fan-freaking-tastic Lethal Peppermint Chocolate cake. It's made with dark chocolate fudge cake, peppermint buttercream frosting in the center (made with crushed peppermints and peppermint schnapps), and a chocolate ganache (also with peppermint schnapps) on the top and sides. Topped it off with bits of Ande's mints and some of the leftover crushed peppermints. It's pretty amazing.
