Cleaning girly parts

My new mare has been rubbing her tail so I took a look underneath while grooming recently and sure enough it was dirtyyyyy. She is quite sensitive in that general area- makes faces when I brush or curry so I have been slowly desensitizing around her belly to expand the region where I can hold my hand and brush to eventually being able to reach her ( Read more... )

Yup, she's on the barn schedule. I did think it was worming at first but someone suggested dirty udders and teats could result in tail rubbing too so I wanted to see if a clean up would help any.

It's possible she has pinworms, which as I understand it, oral wormers don't touch. The vet where I board has had good results with smearing ivermectin gel around the anus for 3 days in a row. YMMV of course.
