I took my Fjord mare to another show last month. This time I just did it schooling as she had a small fit over the speaker noise last time. No fuss this time as we got there early enough to do a good warm-up and get her in a working mindset. We got to where I was spooking more at the noise than she was. Mission accomplished.
We did two classes, both schooling so no ribbons. I also look slightly more professional in my white Polo and tan breeches.
Another one of my clients took pictures and this is what I discovered:
Suspension takes too much work!
Obviously this will be addressed as she gets more canter work and I have started jumping her too, which should build strength, but in the meantime I thought it was funny and decided to share.
I know draft horses tend to lack suspension in the trot and Western Pleasure horses are often forced into a stilted, suspension less "trope," but I failed to realize that it would naturally show up in the canter.
