i know where you're coming from..i just started riding again last year after a 12+ years hiatus...

if you have any exercise tips for rebuilding riding muscles that do not involve riding itself, I'd love to hear it.

Well actually i do have some exercises..i do them everyday..

Push ups (10) right now they're "girl" push-ups. Work up to 100 "girl" push ups and then begin with 10 "normal" push-ups..and work your way back up to 100. Note: Increase the number by 5 every week.

Crunches (these will help build core muscles) Same idea as the push-ups..start with 10, increase by 5 every week..work up to 100.

Squats. Get into a squat..hold for 10 seconds. Stand. Repeat. Same idea with push ups and crunches. builds up those thigh muscles!

And finally spend some time (start with 1 minute and work your way to longer) in a horse stance (http://www.chinese-kungfu.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/wushu_stances_horsestance.gif) it's a martial arts exercise and it REALLY builds the muscles in your thighs, calves and abdomen! You do not have to start out standing as deeply as shown in the picture..but that is where you should eventually end up.

Those are what has helped me..especially with my jump position and posting. Now my thighs just groan at me instead of scream.
