When did you realize you loved horses?

I was thinking about this the other day. I can not remember a time in my life when I did not love horses. I was not around them as a young child; I rode for the first time at age 11. But even when I was very small, before ever meeting a horse in person, I was obsessed. I had Barbies mainly to ride my Breyers and Grand Champions. I would only color the horses in my coloring books, nothing else. My friends and I would pretend to be the horses from Misty of Chincoteague at recess. I read books with horse themes almost exclusively.

Interestingly, my mother was interested in horses, along with my aunt, as young girls. My mother had a bad accident in high school (broken femur as a result of a kick from another horse while mounted) which I think left her pretty nervous around them; but my aunt has owned horses for decades now. So perhaps genetics have some say in the matter?

So, for the rest of you--how/when did you come to realize you loved horses?
