Gali's recent struggles with his ringbone have really made me take a step back and evaluate what I do with him. He and I both love dressage, but the more challenging movements we were working on seemed to be what aggravated the arthritis. He is back to being sound now, but I think I am going to ease up on our dressage training and work on getting both of us out onto the trails.
If we enjoy it as much as I think we are going to, I think I'm going to have to use a different saddle. My dressage one is comfortable for us, but I don't want to take the chance of ruining it or damaging it out in the open.
I think I'm going to look for an AP saddle, because I prefer getting into half seat for hand galloping out on the track and trails, but I like a deeper seat than a close contact saddle.
What's your favorite lower-priced trail saddle? It can be synthetic - the only thing I am not going to go for is the CAIR panel saddles. I just want something that's comfortable, reasonably priced, and that won't mind me being tough on it.
