Yesterday, I got thrown from a horse for the first time.
I was thrown face-first (I was wearing a helmet, of course) into a metal fence. I am bruised and scraped, and my knee is smashed up but not broken. I'm going back today to ride my regular horse, to be sure I'm not afraid or nervous.
Anyone care to share their first fall stories??

Well, my FIRST fall when I was like 6 or so, and my sister and I were both sitting on my grandpa's old sweet gentle appaloosa. We were just sitting on him and my grandpa was holding the lead rope. My sister was behind me and leaned over to see what the horse was doing and she just leaned right off taking me with her.
My second fall was when I was 12 or so. I was riding bareback on a somewhat marish horse in a class (we were all bareback). The horse behind me got too close and my horse kicked while we were trotting. I just bounced right off. I was scared to ride bareback for years afterwards though.
My last and most recent fall was just a few weeks ago (I'm in my 30s for reference and I didn't ride much at all from the ages of 16-31). I'm still working on leg strength and my leg just got away from me and I lost my balance. It was a clean fall, nothing major hurt, I didn't land under the horse, etc. I got back on immediately and finished my lesson. 3 weeks later my shoulder is still sore, I think I just tightened up the shoulder muscles too much when I fell (and I have tight shoulders under the best of circumstances). It is just muscle soreness, no loss of range of motion, no sharp pains or anything. I think it just needs more time and care to heal but I'll be fine.

Falling is scary. I was really upset, because the horse did it to get me off of him. I'm going back today, though, to ride my regular guy to make sure I don't get scared or nervous.
I hope your shoulder heals up quickly! Three weeks is a long time to have a sore shoulder :(
