i zip it in jersey (I live in downtown Jersey City for this reason)
I have tried pretty much every barn in the north jersey area, and I have problems with all of them although there are SOME good points to all of them as well. Is it okay if I message you? I don't want people to think I'm slandering anyone on the internet lol.
Barns I've tried within driving distance in the city:
Essex Equestrian Center North Jersey Equestrian Center Garrett Mountain (Equestrian Center...? I think? lol) Bergen County (Eq center.. can't we have a FARM or ACRES or SOMETHING??)
Bergen is closed right now as far as I know. They were 'renovating' and ran out of money. OF course.
I feel like it's a fact of life as a city dweller, the riding is going to be sh*tty. I'm doing the best I can for now and planning on moving the heck out of here when I can.
Bergen's definitely still closed. I've known people who have boarded at both NJEC and GMEC (one of whom still teaches there). They do both have their issues, and their good points. I think the biggest problem and asset both is the size at a lot of these sorts of facilities.
What do you consider driving distance, out of curiosity? NJEC isn't that super close - have you looked at stuff in the Hunterdon/Somerset area? Nothing in North Jersey is cheap, but there are quite a few more options if you're willing to travel - and to pay $75 for an hour like you would at NJEC anyway.
I had this big long rant written out and decided that now that I had vented I could give a real response lol
too far for me is anything that takes longer than 40 min to get to on a saturday morning. Right now I ride at 8 30 am on saturday. I can get to EEC in like 20 minutes, because I drive like an insane person. I am forever TOO EXCITED about the barn.
NJEC was inside that but it was a weird place beyond that so I decided better the devil I know (essex) than I don't. Do you have anything to recommend? I'm so frustrated I'm at the end of my ropes here lol.
Bringing this back from the dead, but I just booked a lesson at North Jersey...with Andrew Penny? He apparently used to be at Bergen before they closed?
