To get this out there; has anyone else gone from using a girth with 2 elastic ends, to a mohair / some other material girth with NO elastic? I am feeling that without the elastic I just can NOT get the girth to where I want it on Mr. Sage. Has anyone else experienced that feeling going from elastic to not?
Girth #1; some knock-off professional's choice type girth like this one;
Looks like this but doesn't have any neoprene Girth #2; Thought it was my dream girth, even when it arrived. Close inspection still left it my dream girth. The mohair, the neoprene backing, the solid buckles....
But. Tightening that puppy just ain't the same. I feel like I am either over-tightening it, or, it is too loose. Not happy.
I even paid extra to get it in the solid cream. Girth #1 is something I am very happy with, and totally comfortable with how it fits and keeps the saddle on the roly-poly no withers horse (along with his breast collar). However, I bought it used, and the elastic is not going to hold up forever. Sooner or later I will need to replace it.
Anything I can do to make this second girth work for me? I'm using it on an ancient Passier and 90% of what we do is go trail riding. For longer rides where girth galls might be an issue, I know the mohair is a definite advantage (hence the reason for me buying this girth). I was hoping it would last us a lifetime...or at least until my next major saddle upgrade. I'm just not trusting the way it fits my horse.
