During the winter, I started riding again in the saddle I had as a teen, and I noticed that the saddle was rubbing off on my breeches - both the seat and a bit on the thigh. I thought maybe it was because the saddle hadn't been used for like 12 years (though I kept up w/ cleaning and oiling it during that time!), but now like 6 months later, it's still happening! What am I doing wrong? I wipe it down after each ride (I only ride once a week, alas), and use Passier Lederbalsam and sometimes glycerin saddlesoap on it when it looks like it could use it.
I keep it here at home, in my living room, which is neither damp nor dry.
I don't remember this happening when I used it as a teen, and I think the only difference in my care/use of it now is that I use it less often than I did back then, but I can't imagine "underuse" is causing it!!
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
PS - it DOES wash out of my breeches in a normal wash, so I'm not upset about that - I'm just worried that I'm somehow not caring for my saddle properly!
