I know this isn't going to be exciting to most anyone, but I had to squee about it to someone who would understand.
My horse Indy and I are getting ready to meet a trainer for the first time (a result of
this post), and I've been working hard getting us both in shape, or at least a shape that doesn't resemble a circle. He's been doing well, though we have our battles.
One of the big battles has been getting him to pick up his right lead. Like at all. He's fine picking it up without me on him, but when he's under saddle, you can just about forget it.
UNTIL TODAY, OMG
I started our canter work to the right, and first he picked up the wrong lead, so we went with it for a little while because at least he got a canter. This time I didn't back down though, and asked him for it again--and he stepped right into it from the walk! We went around the ring once (I didn't want to push it) and then about killed him with pets and hugs. Then we went to the left, and he did the same thing! He picked up the correct lead to the left straight from the walk. This is the first time we've ever gotten both correct leads in one ride. I am so proud of him! He got lots of cookies and was spoiled rotten after we finished.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww look at his cute little pink nosy nose
