Hello, I come to you with a few questions of some urgency.
I'm studying to become an equine dentist at the moment and as part of my research, I figured I would try my luck asking some people on LJ.
It's only a few questions, I would be forever grateful if you could take the time to fill them out. Cookies for those who do!
I am interested in your opinion based on what you have been told by your equine professionals. I don't want to know what your vet or dentist says, I want your opinion on them.
If there is anything in the questions you don't know about/haven't heard of you can skip the question (I will be happy to inform, but I think a quick google can do the same ;-) )
1. What do you think of the use of restraints (chemical or otherwise) in equine dentistry? Is it necessary? What kind of restraint would you be okay with?
2. What do you think of the grinding of incissors to reduce their length? Essential? Unnecessary? Why?
3. What do you think of the grinding of "bit seats" in the first premolars? Essential? Unnecessary? Why?
4. What do you think of the use of power tools in equine dentistry, as opposed to manual treatment? Essential? Unnecessary? Why?
5. What do you think of the cutting of teeth with cutters?
6. Did you know that teeth are living structures and that they can be easily damaged? Does this change your opinion on how dentistry is currently performed?
7. Feeders; on the ground or elevated? And why?
8. What do you think of the use of training aids such as martingales on the horse and the horse' head carriage? Does it improve performance?
Thanks so much guys! =D
