My husband and I are having a disagreement about an issue I am having with Yanarra, the Arabian I ride twice a week. Every once in a while, she will not let me catch her. We dance around the field until she finally gets sick of it and lets herself get caught.
I feel it is best to be persistent and patient and keep pursuing her in whatever quiet way will eventually allow her to be haltered. After all, this problem only comes up occasionally and she is a joy under saddle whether it is a hard-to-catch day or not--once I get her working she forgets about the herd and thinks about work instead. My husband believes that if she doesn't want to be caught, she doesn't want to work and I shouldn't make her work. However, I am of the belief that if I let her get away with not working by not being caught, it will just compound the problem.
What is your belief on this issue? Should I just leave her alone when it is a hard-to-catch day?
