Last Friday (11/21/08) I made a post about Annie, the 35-year-old Arabian mare that the owners of the stable I work for had to put down last week. I asked for suggestions on what I could do to help them in their grieving and received many helpful replies. Thank you all!
Today I gave them an Annie memory box. It’s a small decorative wooden box filled with old photos, and stories from barn members who wrote their favorite memories of Annie on index cards. Her owners absolutely loved it. When I gave them the box, we talked about Annie and the topic came up of what to do with some of her things that they have no use for now. I recommended that they donate all of it to the local nonprofit therapeutic riding center. They thought that was a great idea. As for her feed card, I had left it alone, so when I gave her owners the memory box, they were able to take it down themselves and put it in the box. It all went really well and I think it was very helpful to them. Thank you everyone for your help with this difficult topic!
