Firstoff, WHAT? Was anyone else aware that there was a whole additional part of the Olympics that used horses? I stumbled upon this because I didn't know what a "Modern Pentathlon" was, so I clicked the link on the NBC site, and saw "fencing, riding, running, shooting, swimming."
The riding part is SHOWJUMPING, where the competitors are paired with a horse randomly 20 minutes before they're set to ride, and the fences are lower, they look like maybe 3'6"-4' tops.
Go watch what I did, and your jaw will drop for the sake of anything holy in this sport. More bad_riding than I could ever have imagined from a goddamned OLYMPIC SPORT.
ohgod ohgod ohdear And then click on "Inside the Sport", the icon thing with the jumper... and click on "Rewind: Men's riding and running" and prepare to be amazed. This first guy is sitting there like a sack of potatoes, his horse has run out of nearly all the fences, he's literally STEERING his horse away from them and grabbing on its mouth with absolutely no give.
eta: messed up the link
