Hi all,
So, Steph is looking much MUCH better at the moment and I'm in a position that I would like to offer her up for lease. This is not because I can't afford her, but more that I think she needs someone around who can dedicate more time to her than I am able to at the moment.
Steph is very sweet natured, she loves attention, with a little bit of work to bring her back into shape she would make a fabulous show horse, for gentle showing. She is a very highly trained girl and capable of doing fabulous things (dressage, jumping, hacking and PC [BTW, she I know she has no issues jumping given that she is constantly hopping between paddocks with 4' high fences]) but given that she is almost 20, I really don't think she's up to serious competition. She is a OTTB, approximately 16hh, floats REALLY easily, her feet practically keep themselves in order, she is allergic to soy and not the best keeper, but she is on a feeding regime at the moment that works really well for her, so it's not a problem. While Steph is very quiet, I would also prefer that the person leasing her has had some experience with horses previous and is not a total beginner. This is not due to her behaviour at all, but more for the fact that she has done her times as a beginner horse and I would like her to be able to just enjoy her next rider.
I am wanting to lease her out to someone who is willing to keep her where she is and on the same diet that she is on now. I currently pay about $250/month and this means that EVERYTHING is done for her. She has a round bale in a private paddock, hard feed twice a day, rugs on and off morning and night, feet done, worming... It's a very good deal. I would never lease her to someone I don't trust, but I would like to be able to see how she is going and give her a hug sometimes too. Given that I am moving overseas at some point in the next couple of years, there will probably be an option to buy her once I am ready to let her go.
I really want to stress that I love my girl. I know that she's an older mare but she's still got plenty of vavavoom and I don't think she's going to be quiting out at any point soon. The reason for this lease is mostly because I want to make sure she really will be going to a home that loves her and knows how to look after her once I need to pass her on.
So, if you know anyone in Melbourne, Australia, who is looking to lease a nice horse, then please let me know.
Here are a few pics. I know she's in a rug, but I will get some more soon and post them.
In the middle of winter and in need of a bath!
Spunky purple rug!
She loves a good hug.
Just for reference, I was standing up hill of her and I'm about 5'4".
I shall post some more soon.
Take care and happy horsing!
