Hey guys, a question for you:
My boyfriend and I really enjoy trail riding together. He is 100% novice, but done well so far during the trots he's experienced (remained upright, no panic, heels down, didnt grab or yank on the horse's mouth-yes i coached him on proper crisis management before hand! =D ), but otherwise no real riding experience. I am 180º opposite. Rode every day for many years when i was younger in A and B circut H/J shows with a large show barn on the east coast. Stopped riding 10 years ago like that, and had a couple lessons recently (still got it, but DAMN its sad with no muscle!). So im experienced but out of shape.
Kicker? we're looking for Western trail riding. He's also interested in taking lessons to better his skills but we can NOT seem to find a barn around here that isn't a trainwreck and teaches western riding. I seem to adjust pretty good (on all the trail rides i have been on through the years they have been western and the trail bosses haven't been all "HOLY JESUS STOP NOW"), but would like to take a lesson or two to get my equitation up to par for western riding (im a perfectionist to some degree).
Anyone know any NON-trainwreck western barns (w/trails and rental horses with guides) in the lower NYS area? Putnum, Duchess, Westchester? Cuz websites like this:
http://www.ridenys.com/ with claims like this: "Learn to ride horses in 4 days" are FRIGHTENING. lol
(also, no interest in riding in the City at all. We are thinking more ruralish trails-state parks and such)
