The people behind this thing got John DeLancie to sing their opening number (and the fan-animation is AMAZING!!). And they also managed to get a cool surprise guest singer.
How the hell was G3 "crap"? Genuine question. G3.5 I can understand, given the direction Hasbro took the line, and later G3 when they adopted the 'core seven' stupidity was awful, but I absolutely do not understand when people say the G3 line was 'crap'.
It featured redesigned ponies that closely resembled the original (extremely popular, one of the most popular toylines in history, in fact) G1 ponies, and had actually themed 'sets' of ponies that appealed to the collector market, such as Birthflower, Jewel, scented (a very popular toy idea with children) and sparkly, glittery ponies (y'know, the same type that G4 fans were clammering over the prospect of getting with Crystal Empire.) We even got themed seasonal sets, such as Christmas and Halloween, which is more than the G4 line seems to be getting.
The line lasted years and was extremely popular with children and collectors until Hasbro in their infinite wisdom decided that ponies aren't horses, but in fact 'little girls' and re-branded the line to suit a new moronic mentality of 'ponies are literally just dolls in horse form'. Hasbro's bad decision making was not exclusive to the G3/G3.5 line, as any G1 and FiM fan must be well aware, by now.
The cartoon is another story, but you didn't say the *cartoons* were crap, you said the whole G3/G3.5 line was crap. The cartoon was poorly animated and the plots leave a lot to be desired - it's important to remember however that G1 was aimed at 7-9 year olds whereas the G3 line was aimed at 3-5 year olds. The cartoon was also ONLY made to sell toys, a failing endeavor since it was never on television and sold only direct to DVD WITH the toys in the first place, but the G3 cartoons, as with *every* pony line - yes, even Friendship is Magic, initially - were created ONLY to advertise and sell the toys. The toys are Hasbro's primary focus and interest, and from that standpoint, G3 was anything but "crap".

I'm pretty sure just about everyone is specifically referring to the cartoons and not the toys (since the video everyone is talking about only references other MLP TV shows and never talks about the merchandise). Not every MLP fan is a toy collector with intimate knowledge of the toyline, y'know.
Maybe the G3 & G3.5 toys were awesome (I wouldn't know since I stopped buying Ponies when I was a kid). But the cartoons attached to them were not.
I understood through context that you were talking about the cartoons, not the toys. ^_^ Quite a few people here are collectors and they seem to take poorly to any perceived slight to the old toys. And to state the obvious, that is my opinion.
