break is over
and i'm debating what to do
i don't think i want to stay

i was reading old entries.
before i got here, i was so angry at the possibility of not being able to come.
now that i'm here, i'm angry at the possibility that i might be stuck here.
it's beautiful
but difficult
i'm not made for UCs

i could be happier. but i am happy.
shitty

I've been here more than a year and I'm still not sure whether I like UCs or not. you cant argue with the location, but they just treat people like numbers. i dont even know if were talking about the same thing.

We probably are talking about the same thing because I'm talking about a bunch of different things. I just have no clue as to what it is I am supposed to be doing here. I just choose classes because they sound interesting. But soon enough, all the interesting classes are going to be under my belt. and then what? i don't want a profession. hahaha. i just don't want my family to hate me.
so this spot i am in. you know, that rock and that hard place? right in between it. i never got that saying. why not just in between two rocks? anyway...
i hate school.
who are you? do we know one another? haha

ahha! yep. i totaly had the same problem up untill about halfway though last spring quarter. speaking as a rockclimber I'm used to being between rocks and hardplaces. it gets even tougher when the not so hard places get involved. school is too wide open, there are too many choices. thats how i ended up taking german pop culture (my favorite class yet). eventually I relized I stunk at writing essays, so that left me with the sciencey departments. now I'm a business economics major. one good thing about ucsb is that you could spend an entire year and a half on general ed requirements without falling behind. i didnt have any clue what to major in either. I know exactly what I want to do, but the school doesnt have a department in it. I talked with a career counselor and he said that what you study in college and what you spend your life doing are most likey going to be entirely different. that took all the pressure off chosing a major for me. he also said to take whatever was easiest (though he wouldnt let me quote that to my parents). why don't you try community college?
it's really easy-going, you know
besides, maybe it will help prepare you for something bigger later
and you're usually an automatic transfer, so you dont have to worry about getting in or anything
it doesn't cost much anymore

you just shouldn't overload yourself
