The boys had known something was up, even before the Tsunami hit; Ynen had been acting strangely agitated, and Moril (who obviously knew his horse best) had decided it was good to follow his lead. They'd moved the cart up inland, just in time to hear the Tsunami announcement on the radio they'd acquired just days earlier. The idea had been to wait until further information, before moving back...
And then came the news of the loose Dinosaurs. That had set Edward in motion, and Al was at his heels. Neither of them could have been assured by staying put, or running for cover. They had to personally make sure that none of their loved ones were in danger. When Moril could not be convinced to leave the horse for a safer place, the brothers had ben reluctant to leave him. Still, Edward was anxious; he could feel the adrenalin rushing through his veins already. He hadn't wanted to leave Moril alone, neither of them had...
They could only promise they'd come back as soon as possible.
Going to the compound proved to be a very useful stop. The brothers were able to account for most of their friends; Dairine was working with the crew trying to restore functionality to the electric fence, and though he was worried for her safety, Edward felt more at ease knowing she had not been lost or injured. Calvin was helping too, and Susan was busily working in the kitchen. Duo was out working Dinosaur Containment, and after their expedition into the dinosaur territory, he was fairly certain Duo would be able to handle himself.
After several hours of checking lists, checking into the clinic, and in the lower levels of the basement, it was Al who piped in;
"Brother... I haven't seen Winry anywhere... "
"Damnit," Edward muttered to himself. There had been no real sign of her -- not her face, or her name marked off any of the lists. "Do you think she's still at the treehouse?" he asked, hoping, as he made his way for the doors.
In all the chaos, it wasn't hard to get out of the compound unnoticed. Luckily, Winry's Treehouse wasn't terribly far down the path either.
