Wood of the right shape would normally be almost impossible to find, but Beorn had enough that it was easy to find something that would make do.
Bilbo had seen someone that he could call a king. A fleeting glimpse when he stood up to fight a lost battle. When he bowed his head and admitted he was wrong.
Bilbo chiseled away at his timber, and wondered if he would ever get the chance to finish this work. Adventures did not lend themselves to long hours spent whittling and sanding and polishing.
Probably wouldn't matter anyway in the end, but Bilbo couldn't help but think how appropriate it would be for Oakenshield to be oakencrowned.
