[Death the Kid wakes up this morning and glances around the room, becoming immediately certain of a few things. One, this is not his house--or his bed, or his pajamas, or anything even remotely resembling his--and two, this room is horrifically asymmetrical

And he would still be sleeping if not for the horrendously loud screaming coming from down the hall. He squeezed his eyes shut and groaned. Really, this is not how he wanted to be woken up. Soul could only hear a few select words, "garbage" and "hideous" and "horrible" and "disgusting" were among them. The rest was slurred and incoherent, but he didn't need to hear anything else to know who that voice belonged to.
As he slid out of bed he heard the telltale "THUNK" that could only mean that his new "brother" had freaked himself out so bad that he passed out.
... Idiot.
Still in his pajamas he opened up the door across the hall and there, in a collapsed heap of disgust and horror, was Death the Kid.]
Yo, Kid. Are you planning on getting up anytime soon or what?

[He sits up, hand on his forehead he's not covering his eyes why would you even think that.]
Soul?

[He shakes his head as he walks towards Kid and sits down in front of him. ]
... Dude, you're not seriously covering your eyes because of this room, right?
Reply
[Maybe.]
Where the hell are we?

This is Mayfield. I just got here a few days ago myself, so there's a lot I don't know.

Did you just wake up here as well? The last thing I remember returning to the DWMA after fighting Mosquito.
[Technically that is a lie, because the last thing he really remembers was searching for information about Eibon. But he hadn't told Soul or the others at home, and that's not an endeavor he'll be undertaking here, either.]
Reply
No, I've been here for a week already.
... Wait, seriously? [And then he's very quiet. Kid too, huh?] Man, that was so long ago.

[Kid frowns. Did coming here mean he lost part of his memory? He can't help but shake the thought that Soul seems to be disappointed, but not surprised, of Kid remembering something from much longer ago.]

That's very strange. Especially since you arrived here first...the logical expectation would be that time continued to pass at home after Black☆Star, Tsubaki and I arrived--and that you came later. But that clearly isn't the case..

Does our being here have any relation to Arachnaphobia or the Kishin?

[he pauses for a moment.]
I'm a Death Scythe now, actually.

[Pause. Rewind. Soul is a Death Scythe now? He doesn't seem so much disbelieving as surprised. How much time had passed between what Kid remembered most recently and what Soul remembered?]
[Kid leans forward slightly, squinting. With a sigh, he realizes that he can't for the life of him detect any soul wavelengths whatsoever--he wouldn't have known about Soul unless he'd been told. The thought unnerves him--he has no idea that Mayfield restricts any abilities one might have, so he can't help but worry that something is horribly, horribly wrong. Something that would actually be horrible. Read: not asymmetry.]
Congratulations, Soul. That's quite the achievement, though I never doubted you and Maka would pull it off.

Heh, thanks.
[But after a moment his smile falters and he rubs the back of his neck]
Won't do us much good right now though. I'm sure you've already noticed, but this place takes your abilities away. I can't transform at all.
Reply
[Kid sits back, frowning and contemplating this. Soul can't transform, he can't sense soul wavelengths--it might all make sense, but it also puts them at a marked disadvantage should they need to defend themselves.]
I see...
[Maybe there is the teensiest bit of relief in his voice but don't read too much into it, Soul. You might be a Deathscythe but in weapon form you are shaped too much like a 7. Sorry.]
