Today I debated with myself whether to take the highway or backroads home, as I do most any day. Smart Traveler said the highway route was mainly clear, but for some reason I decided to take the backroads.
Yeah, bad idea.
Got pulled over. The cop was sitting on a side street, off one of the backroads I take, so I didn't even see him until it was too late. Even then, I thought it was just some weirdo crossin the street, but no. Said he clocked me doing 41 (in a 25), which could have been right, since I still have yet to get used to the acceleration of the new wheels (which I told him) and I had just taken a slow, sharp turn onto the street and was trying to pick up speed. He did tell me he was there for the "Click it, or Ticket" campaign and thanked me for wearing my seatbelt. Even that couldn't save me completely though from the devious end-of-the-month mantra of the police! He did knock it down to 35 though...only 10 over instead of 16 ($160 down to 100, and no $30 head collision charge). He again thanked me for wearing my seatbelt, commented on keepin the leash on my "nice, new car" and I was on my way. He was very nice about the situation, I must give him credit...he wasn't an ass at all...still sucks though. He nailed two (yes two) cars after mine as well, and I did see a car pulling out of that road when he got me, so he must've hit quota real quick!
I'll probably just pay it, unless my dad can call in another favor from his state trooper friend. Otherwise, I'll just fork over the $100 and suck up the f-ing surcharge on my insurance too...sonova...
