Serious Awesomeness

My Bar Review course started two days ago. In related news, I am now two days behind in my Bar Review studies.

On the bright side, I've spent the last two evenings at some pretty good concerts.

Monday night was at the Bellyup Tavern, with The Zincs and Robbers on High Street, with The Sea and Cake headlining. The Zincs seemed okay, but it was hard to tell because the sound guy couldn't get the levels right - the vocals were pretty much inaudible. Good foot tapping music, though.

Robbers on High Street were the reason I went to the show. They're fabulously poppy and rocky and good. The screwed up sound took a little away from the performance, but it was still awesome-sauce. You should listen to them.

The Sea and Cake were lousy. I've got a couple of their albums, and they were definitely an acquired taste for me. I more or less like their recordings now, but I couldn't sit through their live act. All of the subtle things they do to make their music complex in their recordings were muddy in the live show, and it just sounded like a bunch of noise. We left after two songs. Since they weren't the group I was there for, it wasn't too much of a loss.

Tonight we went to see Albert Hammond, Jr. at the House of Blues, with The Dead Trees opening. The Dead Trees are from Boston, and while I'd heard of them before, I'd never heard them. They seemed pretty decent - I'm going to have to track down their album one of these days.

Albert Hammond, Jr. rocked my socks off. Both of them. If you like alt-rock, go see the show. Seriously. Awesome music, awesome stage presence, awesome awesomeness.

I haven't slept much in the last three days, and that's not likely to change in the foreseeable future. Thus the rambling. Going to go to sleep now so I don't die.
