Sequel to “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?”

Auther’s Note: I don’t know whether to call this AU, now or not. In my opinion it could possibly still be cannon, but *shrug* that’s just me.

Anissina can usually undo whatever mishap that occurs at her hands (well, except for Dakoskos’s hair it seems), but can she undo something that was truly an accident and not just an unexpected side effect of one of her machines? Should she “fix it”?

There was a soft knock on the door followed by a soft whisper, “Conrad? It’s me, Gisela.” She must have tried to open the door, but it had been sealed by the Demon King while Conrad slept.  A little louder, Gisela’s voice was filled with concern, “Conrad, I can’t open the door. Is everything all right?”

Sitting with his back against the headboard Conrad glared at the door. Annoyed, he flicked his hand at the door and using a bit of maryoku unsealed it, “Come.” Yuuri stirred beside him, but did not wake. Conrad’s brow furrowed as he looked at his hand and then felt within himself. His eyes widened as he felt not only a much larger amount of maryoku, but the beast he had thought was a momentary side effect of the chemicals in Anissina’s waste water was still there, just below the surface, apparently asleep for the time being.

Gisela quietly came in, holding a piece of paper, voice quiet so as not to wake the sleeping King, “How is Heika?”

Conrad’s arm convulsed around the form who was sleeping peacefully against him. Conrad noticed Gisela’s eyes widen as she noticed the state of their undress. He noticed her eyes widen further as she took a deep breath and noticed the smells within the room. Her eyes locked on Conrad, but the flutter of wings drew her attention back to Yuuri. Her soft gasp was telling for the usually composed healer, “Oh my.” She approached and reached out without thinking. A soft growl drew her attention to the reclining man, “Conrad?” Something in his eyes made her stop and ask permission, “May I examine him?” She watched as his expression changed when he looked down at the sleeping figure.

His soft answer was even more telling for the healer. “No. I don’t want to wake him.” He looked up, “Talk to me first.”

Gisela nodded, “Of course.” To her surprise she watched as Conrad gestured his hand and a chair approached the bed and seated itself beside Gisela. Oh boy! This is more serious then I thought. That’s not something that maryoku can do! She swallowed but composed herself as she turned and asked, “So, you were affected also?” At Conrad’s nod she said flatly, “Tell me.”  Conrad made a small movement and Gisela’s eyes were drawn to Conrad’s back. Another gasp issued from her mouth as Conrad flexed the small pair of wings that issued from his shoulder blades, “Oh dear.” Mentally she wondered, what in the world was Anissina working on?

Conrad nodded and they continued to converse in hushed tones, “But that isn’t all.” At Gisela’s raised eyebrow he continued, “You know that most half human, half demon’s aren’t born with a Mazoku gland, right?” Gisela nodded, “I was no exception, but I checked earlier.” Conrad locked eyes with her to show how important this was to him, “I now have one.”

Gisela’s eyes widened only a fraction this time. She was beginning to realize that the wings probably wouldn’t be the only change within the two men before her, “And Heika?”

Conrad nodded, “He has one now, too.” Gisela nodded and Conrad went back to staring at his mate, “I can’t remember if he had one when he was little, but I’m pretty sure that none of the Earth born Mazoku have the gland.”

“You’re right. When Heika first came, I examined him. He didn’t have the gland.”

Conrad nodded, “There’s also an increase in my maryoku. I’ve never been strong. . .and now,” Conrad trailed off.  He shook his head and continued, nearly growling his next statement, “I think we need to find out exactly what Anissina was working on.”

“I agree. That’s why I had her write up a list of possible ingredients and experiments that could have combined into what she threw out the window. It still surprises me that Anissina was trying to clean!” Gisela handed Conrad the piece of paper she’d been holding, “This is the list. I think I can explain at least a few of the changes that are happening to you.”

Conrad looked up from the paper, a look of shocked horror, “This is everything she was working with?”

Gisela shook her head, “No. Those are the ones that she was cleaning up. The back is the list of experiments she was using the ingredients for.”

Conrad quickly turned the paper over, laughed in horror and said softly, “Dear Shinou, that women will kill us all!” Conrad looked up suddenly, “Were the baths drained?”

“What?”

“Were the baths drained after I washed the chemicals off of Yuuri?”

Gisela’s eyes widened, “Oh dear.” She shook her head, “I don’t know.” Gisela got up quickly and headed for the door, “I’ll have them drained and cleaned immediately!!” Gisela rushed out of the room like the hounds of hell were on her heels.

Conrad shuddered to think what would happen if someone else was exposed to this as he looked between the list in his hand and the figure at his side. To his surprised Yuuri’s eyes were open, “Did I wake you?”

Yuuri smiled and then slightly puzzled. He sat up and looked at Conrad. His wings rustled as he asked, “What happened yesterday?”

Conrad’s stomach bottomed out, but he asked calmly, “What do you remember, Heika.”

Yuuri frowned, Don’t call me that! To both of their surprise the command had been sent mentally.

Yuuri’s eyes widened when Conrad smiled and replied in the same manner, Sorry, Yuuri. I was just worried.

Yuuri’s wings fluttered along with his emotions. The movement finally got his attention as he looked to see what the sound and feeling was. “Eh?” Yuuri’s frightened eyes went back to Conrad, causing things to stir within the solider, “Wha. . .what happened yesterday?”

Conrad sighed, not knowing if drawing Yuuri closer would help calm him or make things worse. As if reading his mind, Yuuri moved closer, putting his head against Conrad’s chest. Yuuri began to shudder and Conrad couldn’t help the arm that draped around his mate or how he pulled him closer. “Shhh, Love. I’m here.” Yuuri curled his body against Conrad’s. “It’s going to be all right. Nothing’s going to hurt you.”

Yuuri looked up, into Conrad’s eyes, “We,” Yuuri’s word died on his lips.

Conrad nodded, looking down into confused and surprised eyes, “Do you hurt anywhere?”

Yuuri blushed, but shook his head, “No. I. . .I don’t hurt.”  Conrad could see that Yuuri had questions and he let the young King try to work things out himself. When he looked up, he saw uncertainty clearly in his eyes, “Do you regret it?”

Conrad’s surprise was plainly written on his face, “Regret?” Conrad smiled, laughing a little, “Shouldn’t that be my line?”

Yuuri’s face scrunched up, “No.” He shook his head, “No, I think I seduced you.” He looked into Conrad’s face with fear in his eyes, “Do you hate me?”

Conrad smiled down at Yuuri, “No.” Conrad tentatively kissed Yuuri and the boy molded himself even more against him. Breathlessly, Conrad broke their kiss, eyes smoldering he answered, “I could never hate you, Yuuri. I think I’ve always loved you.” Conrad gently rolled him onto his back, “I’ve just never been able to,” Yuuri kissed him then, effectively cutting him off.

Yuuri pressed his hips into the man on top of him, gasping into his mouth. Want you! Yuuri’s arms went around Conrad’s neck. Please? Want to remember this. I want to remember last night!

Conrad held off, breaking the kiss. He stared down at Yuuri, biting his lower lip, Are you sure? Are you sure Yuuri?

Yuuri could feel something stirring inside him, but he ignored it and focused on the bare skin that was touching between their bodies. Yuuri wrapped his legs around Conrad and began to move his hips making both of them gasp. Yuuri pulled Conrad’s mouth to his again, kissing him soundly. Yuuri mentally whimpered and then begged, Please?

Conrad’s hands were moving over the Demon King’s body making him gasp and arch into the body that was pinning him to the bed. When Conrad’s fingers touched the sensitive gland at the base of Yuuri’s spine, he almost arched off the bed. The only thing that kept Yuuri from crying out was Conrad’s mouth. He could feel his muscles tightening and the pressure build after only a minute of Conrad’s talented fingers. Conrad, I’m going to! Yuuri’s body did arch off the bed, even with Conrad’s body on top of him.

Conrad’s beast woke at this, roaring to awareness. Conrad’s back arched, eyes closed, breaking their kiss, he felt his blood heat. Every place their bodies were touching became hot and sensitized. Yuuri felt an answering call from the beast within him. Yuuri’s mouth opened in a silent cry as his insides were filled with an energy that he couldn’t explain. His eyes locked onto Conrad’s, who seemed to be recovering from the same experience, but before he could ask a question his mind froze. Conrad’s pupils’ were glowing slits and the heat radiating from him made things tighten low in Yuuri’s groin.  Conrad moved with a speed and precision that was more then graceful. Yuuri watched as the liquid that had come from his body was used to coat Conrad’s erection. Yuuri’s legs were lifted almost to his face, he was bent almost double and he was being impaled before he could utter more then a gasp.

The same thing that filled his body with energy somehow made his entire body relax. To his surprise it didn’t hurt at all as Conrad slowly worked to fill him. Yuuri’s mind was almost overshadowed as the beast with in him purred in contentment. His mate wasn’t far from filling him completely.  That slightly shocked Yuuri back into control, but he was distracted as Conrad sank a fraction deeper and rubbed against something inside him. Yuuri was bucking into Conrad, eyes shut, unable to control his body once again. Strong hands held his hips still until Yuuri finally lay still. Gently and slowly Conrad lowered first one, then the other of Yuuri’s legs to his waist. The movement pulled Conrad out a small fraction, making Yuuri gasp as Conrad passed once again over his prostate. His mental cry made up for his uncooperative vocal cords. When Yuuri’s eyes fluttered open, what they saw made him almost come right there. Conrad, poised over him, eyes heavy lidded and still glowing, were filled with a desire that was echoed deep within Yuuri.

“Mine,” was all the warning Yuuri got before Conrad descended upon him life a starving man coming upon a lavish feast. Yuuri’s lips were capture as Conrad began a rhythm that slowly increased in speed as their needs increased in pitch.

Climax had both men crying out into the other’s mouth. Conrad couldn’t help it as his body gave out and he collapsed on top of Yuuri. Yuuri’s soft gasp and twitching muscled had Conrad groaning. Please, Yuuri, no more. I. . .I can’t. Not again. Not so soon.

The chuckle made them both groan, but neither had the strength to help Conrad withdraw form Yuuri’s body. Sorry. It just felt. . .so. . .Yuuri was lost for words.

It was Conrad’s turn to chuckle, but he suppressed the urge and just smiled at his mate. Its okay and I think the word you’re looking for is amazing. Although, good, wonderful, fantastic, surprising, and many others could fill the void just as easily. Conrad leaned his head on Yuuri’s shoulder and smiled at the young King as he nodded.

As their breathing began to calm, both men noticed that their beasts had retreated once again. Conrad’s instincts kick him. The soldier with in him and a burst of adrenalin had the exhausted me gently withdrawing from Yuuri’s body. Conrad leaped from the bed, covering Yuuri with the same movement. Conrad was surprised at his own speed as he quickly found and secured his pants in time to turn, see the door swing open and watch as a blonde Prince walked in. “Oh shit,” was Yuuri’s soft whisper, not having to see Wolfram to have felt him and his constant anger.

Conrad was barefoot and standing in front of Yuuri’s bed when Wolfram stopped at the sight. Wolfram gulped; face contorting with a myriad of emotions, before he composed himself. Surprising everyone, Wolfram’s voice was quiet, “Is Yuuri better?” At Conrad’s slow nod and weary eyes, he continued, “I saw Gisela and she said that you both had been affected.” Conrad softened as the quick look that flashed in Wolfram’s eyes as he glanced at Conrad. He watched as Wolfram swallowed visibly, “She said something about physical changes.” Conrad’s heart softened even more as he smelt the fear that was rolling of Wolfram in waves.

Conrad took a step towards Wolfram, hand extended. Wolfram seemed to examine his brother from toe to eyes. When Wolfram’s eyes met Conrad’s they plainly said, “Please tell me you’re okay?”

Conrad smiled and at a speed Wolfram hadn’t expected, took the young Prince in an embrace. Conrad was surprised that he didn’t fight it, but seemed to cling to him. Conrad’s eyes widened as he felt tears on his shoulder. The real shock came when Wolfram whispered, “Do you love him?” Wolfram’s eyes meet his brother’s. It was Conrad’s turn to swallow. When he nodded solemnly, Wolfram bit his lip, “I won’t stop protecting him. . .and I can’t promise to not be jealous.”

Wolfram tried to look away, but Conrad lifted his chin, “But?”

“I can try to let go.” Conrad pulled Wolfram tighter into him, letting the Prince cry silently and thanking Shinou with all his heart. Conrad felt when his brother tensed to more back. He had to force himself to let go as Wolfram stepped out of his embrace. “You do look different.” Conrad’s head tilted to one side, “You do.” Wolfram smirked, “And you smell.”

Conrad laughed at that, “Yeah I probably do.” Unconsciously Conrad’s wings fluttered in his amusement.

Wolfram’s widened and he stared, “Whoa!”

Conrad smiled, turning so his brother could get a full view of his new appendages, “What do you think?”

Wolfram asked the first thing that came into his head, “Do they hurt?”

Conrad laughed, “They hurt coming out, but other then that, no.”  Concern flashed over Wolframs’ face as he peered at the bed, which was almost completely in shadow, “Yes, Yuuri has them too.” Conrad shook his head, “No, he said they don’t hurt him either.”

Wolfram heard the sound of fluttering wings and stared into the darkened shadow of the bad. Tentatively he asked, “How do you feel?”

Yuuri’s voice was smaller then it should be as he answered, making Conrad want to hold him and reassure him that everything would turn out all right, “I don’t know. Everything’s happening so quickly. I barely remember getting hit on the head.” Wolfram could almost imagine Yuuri’s shrug as he heard wings flutter again, “I feel weird and my body’s different. Not just the wings. It’s as if things have sort of shifted inside. Like there’s more room inside me now, then there was. Does that make any sense?”

Wolfram nodded, “Yeah. It seems like some of Anissina’s experiments had something to do with dragons,” Wolfram heard the flutter of wings and Conrad had disappeared from in front of him to his shock. He walked towards the bed and saw Conrad with Yuuri clinging to him, his head buried in his chest. He was distracted from his own pain by the sight of Yuuri’s fluttering wings and he continued as if he hadn’t meant to stop talking, “Which explains the wings. She was also working with a whole bunch of other things that I didn’t understand.” Wolfram shook his head, “But most of them sounded dangerous.” Conrad looked up to see the sadness in his brother’s eyes, and smiled sadly. Wolfram surprised him again by smiling back at him, “Well, now that I know you two are okay. . .well as okay as you can be, I’m gonna go. I promised Greta I’m make sure you were okay. She has been worried sick.”

Yuuri looked up at that, “Oh no! Is she okay?”

Wolfram stopped in mid turn and answered, “Yeah, she was just really worried about you, you wimp. Not waking up for three days tends to scare people.”

Yuuri’s eye widened, “Three days?” He looked at Conrad, “I was out for three days?” When Conrad nodded, Yuuri made to get up off the bed, “I have to tell her I’m okay. She really will worry herself sick!”

Conrad caught Yuuri’s arm as Wolfram protested, “No, you wimp! You need to rest! Don’t make yourself any sicker! That really will worry her!” Wolfram glared at Yuuri, who had stopped struggling to get off the bed, “Do you want to make our daughter cry?”

Yuuri’s face fell, “No.” Yuuri shook his head, “I don’t want to upset anyone,” about that time Wolfram’s word hit Yuuri and his face lit up. “Our daughter?”

Wolfram huffed, “Of course she’s ‘Our daughter’! We adopted her together. That doesn’t change, even if you find someone you like better.” Wolfram swallowed, “You’re such a wimp sometimes! Don’t you ever think?” With that, Wolfram humphed and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

Conrad smiled, “That went well.” Better then I expected.

Yuuri’s concerned face turned back to him and he whispered, “But he’s crying.”

Conrad looked a bit surprised, “You can hear him?”

Yuuri’s eyes went back to the door, but he nodded, “Yeah. Can’t you?”

To Conrad’s surprise, he could faintly hear Wolfram down the hall, muttering, “Wimp! Why’d you have to make me cry? At least he cares that Greta’s still ours.”

Yuuri’s face was crumpling as he turned to Conrad, “Hush, love.” Conrad took him into his arms, “Hush. He’ll be okay. He just needs time to adjust. He was really scared when you didn’t wake up. We all were.”

Yuuri looked up, “What happened, Conrad? Why was I unconscious for so long?”

Conrad shook his head, “I don’t know. If you hadn’t woken up when you did, we were going to have Murata go get Shouri. We thought that maybe he could wake you.”

Horror flashed thru Yuuri’s eyes, “But you didn’t, right? You didn’t tell my family what happened, did you?”

“No, we didn’t.” Conrad looked up, “We’re going to get more visitors. Maybe we should get dressed.” Yuuri sighed, but nodded and started to get off the bed. Conrad watched him closely and was there when he almost collapsed to the floor. “Yuuri!” Conrad picked the Demon King up, “Are you okay?”

Yuuri’s breathing became ragged, “I. . .I don’t know.” Yuuri clung to Conrad and said, “I feel sick,” just as there was a knock on the door. To Conrad’s annoyance the door was flung open a moment after the knock as he rapped a thick blanket around a shuddering Yuuri. Conrad glared at Gunter, who preceded Gwendel, Cheri, and a flustered looking Gisela.

“Heika, Gisela has just told us the most horrifying news!” Gunter stopped dead in his tracks at the sight and sound before him. A low growl was issuing from somewhere and Conrad had a shivering Yuuri wrapped in a blanket in his arms like a new bride. But out of all of that, Gunter’s eyes focused on the pair of small black wings issuing from Yuuri’s shoulder blades that weren’t covered by the blanket.  Gunter’s sudden stop and apparent dumbfounded silence caused everyone but Gisela to bump into Gunter’s back and gape in shock.

Gisela put a hand to her forehead and whispered, “Conrad, I’m so sorry. I tried to stop them.”

To her surprise, making her look up, Conrad answered her whisper, “I’m not mad at you, Gisela.” Conrad’s glare covered the rest of them, “The rest of you will leave.”

Their protests were immediate and vocal. Gisela, however took one look at Yuuri and bellowed, “All right, everybody out! NOW!”

Everyone except Conrad winced or jumped, “Gisela, how can you talk to us that way?”

Gisela turned to glare at her adopted father, “Take a good look at Yuuri, Father; a good look. Somehow being around you three and probably even me is making him sicker.” Gisela saw the stricken look on Gunter’s face and realized she’d finally penetrated his thick skull. She grabbed his ear and began a shooing motion for the other two as she continued, “That is why I can talk to you like that. Because ~I~ am the healer. If you would like to change that we can talk after I fix whatever’s wrong with Heika, but not until after that.”

Cheri the last to leave the room spoke, turning to Yuuri and Conrad as she stopped at the door frame.  She whispered, “I’m sorry dear. I didn’t know we’d make things worse.” She turned to leave, but stopped again, looking over her shoulder and said, “If there’s anything we can do, please just tell us.” The concern in Cheri’s eyes made Conrad’s glare all but disappear.

“Thank you, Mother.” The smile that Cheri gave him before she turned out of sight was one of genuine warmth.

Gisela walked back in, but stayed at the doorframe, “I’ve had the baths drained and cleaned.” Conrad’s worried eyes made her add, “Don’t worry. I made sure that they were wearing special cloths that are being burned as we speak.” Gisela looked at Yuuri, “He looks better, but when they were in the room,” she sighed.

“We need to get cleaned up. Yuuri wants to see Greta.”

Gisela looked up, “Are you sure? I’m not sure that it’s a good idea.”

Conrad nodded, but Yuuri was the one who spoke, if very weakly, “I think I can handle one, maybe two people at a time, but no more,” he seemed to think for a moment, “And only if Conrad is there.” Conrad looked down at Yuuri and noticed how pale he had become in only a few minutes.

Gisela looked a question at Conrad, who nodded just enough for her to see, “All right. . .but only for a few minutes. After that, you need to rest.” She sounded slightly stern, but the gentle concern overrode anything else in her voice. “I’ll have the baths cleared so you can bathe in privacy.”

Yuuri’s weak reply brought tears to Gisela’s eyes, “Thank you, Gisela.”

She turned so that he couldn’t see them and answered as she briskly walked away, “You’re very welcome, Heika.”

Yuuri slumped heavily against Conrad. In his exhaustion he spoke mind-to-mind as it required much less effort then talking did, but it was only that easy when they were touching, like now. That was tougher then I thought it would be.

Conrad cradled Yuuri closer. You knew they were coming. Could you hear them?

Yuuri shook his head, I don’t know. It’s kind of like that, but more. It’s almost like I can feel them coming. I can hear them much farther away then I used to be able, but I can feel them much farther away then that. They all have different feels to them. I think I might be able to tell who it is by how they feel if I worked on it for a while. Maybe this could be an asset, not just a bad accident.  Yuuri could feel Conrad’s arms convulse around him. Yuuri patted Conrad’s chest, it is okay you know. I’m kind of glad Anissina did whatever she did.

Yuuri! How could you. . . ?

Yuuri cut him off, because, now I have you. I’m glad we’re together. Conrad stilled under Yuuri’s hand. Yuuri chuckled, I could even learn to thank her, but I think I’ll leave that until I’m more fully recovered and the total damage is assessed.

Conrad sighed, you are so quick to forgive. That’s one thing I love about you. Yuuri smiled into Conrad’s eye. “Now, to the baths,” Yuuri nodded, eyelids already getting heavy.

Maybe I should take a nap before I see Greta. Yuuri sighed, besides the fact that I’m not sure if I’ll have enough energy to tell her I’m okay with out making her worry more if she sees me like this.

That is a very reasonable idea, Heika. Oops. Yuuri lightly smacked Conrad’s chest. Sorry, Yuuri. Conrad looked down at the sleepy figure in his arms, you do realize that it is habit, right?

Yuuri smiled sleepily up at him, yeah, but I still get to fuss at you when you slip.

Conrad smiled, I can live with that.
