numb3rs100. So, the rerun of The Decoy Effect was on tonight, as I'm sure you all know, and everyone's favorite line: "You gave her our distress word?" inspired me to write the following. Enjoy.
The Jealousy Effect
The harsh sound of tearing fabric cut through the silence of the room. David grappled with the man in front of him, fighting to regain control. His hands slid over hard muscle, fingernails tearing at any skin within reach. His footing slipped and he went down hard, landing on his side, wind rushing out of him.
David tried to rise only to find himself being pushed back down. In the blink of an eye, he was on his stomach, a heavy weight settling against his lower back. He struggled and bucked, trying to get free, but the other man had his arms locked behind his back. A small bead of sweat formed on his forehead as he heard the ominous click of the handcuffs. The steel felt cold against his skin.
"What are you going to do?" David's voice was raspy, dry with fatigue.
"I haven't quite figured that out yet, Sinclair," the other man panted in David's ear. "But I know you're gonna like it."
David smothered a grin, arching back in response.
Colby chuckled and rose. "You remember the word to stop? Our word?"
A grunt. "Canada."
Colby nodded, "That's right. Keep that one to yourself though, okay?."
