Well I went to the annual library book sale this year. I got a lot of stuff that I will probably neglect but at least I have it and I only spent 20 dollars on it all (it allows me to satisfy my pack rat tendencies without dropping too much $$$).
Anyway here is what I got:
The Bronx is Burning- my grandma has some neat stories about being in NYC during the 70s and I am a sucker for baseball history books so I set aside my distaste of the yankees to read this. It's pretty good so far!
The Mode in Costume- I had no idea it was out of print! I loved looking at the pictures when I'd browse my school's library so now I can look at them to my heart's content without having to return it at the end.
Soul Made Flesh- more history, this time about the brain and the process of scientists figuring how it worked.
Bright Tapestry- "Stories of the Great Houses of England". 90% of it was for the cover, negl. It's wonderful, i'll have to scan it for you.
Sea of Glory- about a US exploring expedition in the early 19th century. Seems pretty cool!!
A Treasury of Royal Scandals- w/e I love old gossip. Tittering over the primary sources shittalking each other was half the fun of writing research papers for history classes, lol.
The Adventure of Birds- I think this guy just wrote a book about how neat he thinks birds are, which I heartily approve of (please check out the birds tag in my tumblr for proof of this sentiment!)
The Cheese and the Worms- I had this on my mental "to read" list for ages! I might not get around to reading it anytime soon but at least I have it!
And then two books on World War I and one in French that I'm still not too sure about but I'll be able to delude myself that I'm still maintaining my French, haha.
I also got a few records! Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Francoise Hardy and Tom Lehrer! Yayyyy.
Anyway my job is going all right. The commission aspect chaps my ass but it's cool talking to people all day. I think I've definitely come out of my shell more and I think I'm fairly personable so everyone seems ok! Considering all the retail hell stories you hear, I really haven't had any terrible experiences. One old lady said something really mean but compared to all the really nice people I've met, just one isn't so bad. It's also pretty good for just people-watching; what they're shopping for, who it's for, how they're approaching it, if they're on a trip...if I were any more creative I'd use this for something but I'm not! I just contemplate people and then contemplate lunch. Ah well.
I hope all of you are doing wonderfully xoxo
