Bear in mind that stuff like ibuprofen and aspirin are more technically called 'NSAIDs' - Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. When the doctor offers to prescribe you an 'anti-inflammatory', what that can mean is "I don't really know what's up with you, so here's a prescription-strength painkiller and hopefully you'll be fine in a fortnight".
However, these have been given because I appear to have gout (and I don't even drink port!) It's been a whole lot better recently - mostly diet and weight loss, so that's why I was commenting on the flare-up.
