what I did this weekend

40930 / 50000 words. 82% done!

On Friday, I was at 30,000.

Part of me feels like I could keep writing forever. The other part of me is really freaking exhausted.

Usually Nano is a reminder to me of how much one can accomplish in a day, and how those days add up. This year it's also been about the power of a day skipped. How easy it is to fall behind on your goals, to let a day slide by and the temptation to let that one day turn into many. It's been a good thing for me to see.

The irony being that I only saw it because I didn't do my usual initial, binge-writing to get ahead. And then I did it this weekend.

But it wasn't a terrible strain to write this much this weekend (unless you ask my back) and I don't want to leave finishing down to the wire. I'd like to finish around Thursday with my 50,000 words and then I can either goof off on the weekend or keep writing to finish off the story. I want to have the last day of the month free to go out and play (assuming there isn't any snow). Maybe it's a sign that I haven't really learned either of the lessons I cited up there, or that I don't trust myself to not slack off at the last minute.

This is like my seventh year doing Nanowrimo, and mostly every year I'm reminded of the same lessons. And then I don't implement them in my daily life the other 11 months of the year. That's the part I really want to change, and right now I am on this high where I feel like the most prolific writer in the world again, and it feels good. If I can keep that going...watch me soar. If not, at least I got something done while it lasted.

writing, nanowrimo
