Revenue value units is pretty scary to contemplate. Medicare/medicaid already reimburse on a RVU system, which I think is horrible because it pits clinic doctors against surgeons. Surgeries are worth 10X more than a clinic visit, hence the reason that clinic doctors have to see more and more patients in a hour to make up for it. It just becomes especially ugly when the overall pay is based around RVUs as well.
It's also difficult to balance the two equally ridiculous stereotypes that turn up in the debate -- the medicaid patient going to the ER for the sniffles because it's free vs. the hardworking poor who lost their insurance and now never go to the doctor even for things that any rational person would.That's it, exactly. There are a lot of people who are falling in the middle and it's not those voices that are being heard or considered
