replying to feedback

As kind of a follow up to last week's inquiry into how you leave feedback, it seems fitting to also ask: how do you reply to feedback that's left for you ( Read more... )

I know I'm late for this but I was intrigued by the topic and today I had some time to read past comments and add mine... My opinion is aligned with the majority, I think, but I'm posting it here anyway. :)

I don't have much experience in responding to feedback (as you can tell! lol) but I think an answer is (almost) always due, otherwise you risk being considered rude.
I've come to think that on LJ there's an unwritten rule that says that, in order to be polite, every conversation should end with each comment replied by the original poster, both in personal journals and in communities. This can be hard sometimes when the conversation is more that one comment followed by one reply, because maybe there's nothing really left to say... but still I think that such a "rule" exists.

As for the length of feedbacks, again I agree with others: if a fb is only a "I liked this", there's not much you can say besides "thank you". But if someone leaves you a detailed fb you have probably a lot to respond to. And I personally love long comments/replies, curiosities about how a writer thought about his story and such. Again, someone pointed out before me that it is through comments that people get to know each other on LJ, at first. So they are important, and the longer, the better!
:)

Thanks for weighing in! You're never too late!

I feel the same about that unwritten LJ rule. Sometimes it feels almost forced, like if you post a link and everyone says "cool!" what can you say? Thanks, except it's not yours, you just found the link. But on the whole, yes, it's good to acknowledge it when people are talking to you. :) And it is how we meet new people.
