The Agony of Canker Sores

Jan 25, 2006 16:54

I have a canker sore on the inside of my lip and it is annoying the hell out of me. And like I do with every minor ailment these days, I look it up on the internet.

What I've basically learned is that no one really knows what causes them, although sometimes they are due to abrasions (I definitely didn't bite it because it is so far down that my teeth can't even reach it). Women tend to get them more than men and some might be due to menstural changes. They run in families and they aren't contagious. But really they don't know what causes them so their tips on how to avoid them are to basically eat healthy and don't be stressed. Gee thanks.

There are a lot of homeopathic ways to relieve pain but they mainly have to do with rinsing with peroxide and I'm not big fan of that. And as far as foods to avoid, well that's quite a list: sweets and citrus fruits, all refined and processed foods, coffee and sugar, acidic foods, salty or spicy foods, any food with hard edges, chewing gum, lozenges with sugar, and candy. Many sites also suggest you not eat grain for a while to see if you are allergic. What exactly does that leave me with? mashed potatoes?
