Audre Lorde

I read Audre Lorde's essay "The Uses of the Erotic" in my feminist theories class last week and cannot get it out of my head. Lorde discusses how sex has become the main center of this idea of erotic, and eroticism has been demonized. She is a poet and it comes across in her writing with the use of imagery, and the roundaboutness that she makes use of to get to her point which in the end is unclear - like a poem.

When we discussed it in class I explained to my peers that what I realized she was trying to say is that everyday things are erotic, and not sexual. The other night the amazing lightning and thunder storm was totally erotic in the way that it made me feel alive, and awakened my senses and attention. In the same way that something sexually erotic will turn you on, something emotionally erotic will turn on your sense of living.

I thought it was very interesting and wanted to share.

Oh and I am totally getting back into Eva Cassidy. She is radcakes.
