The new BBC Sherlock makes me very very happy. (There was a moment of doubt in the opening credits, when I realised that Steven Moffat wrote it, and I flashed back to the patchy oddity that was Jekyll, but this was a million times better than that.) I adore Benedict Cumberbatch with his funny face and his lovely eyes, and Martin Freeman was great - as Himself said to me, it's nice to see him in a television role with a bit of meat to it.
I loved
the nods to canon - particularly the "three patch problem" and the mention of Holmes' previous addiction. Obviously they weren't going to have the eponymous hero of a prime time BBC drama be a practising addict, but I liked the fact that it was included. I also liked Lestrade; I always forget how much I like Rupert Graves until I see him in something.
I think Holmes might be another one of those characters I adore despite because of despite his superior intellect apparently giving him carte blanche to be rude to pretty much everyone, and to fail to develop social skills. (See also: Avon and Rodney McKay.)
(Also? I totally called Gatiss as Mycroft. Himself and I were whispering all through the scene in the warehouse/car park/whatever it was, "Mycroft." "No, Moriarty." "No, Mycroft." "Moriarty." "Mycroft." etc etc etc.)
In other television news, I finally saw the first and second eps of CSI Miami season 8, and Hellllllooooooooo, Jesse Cardoza. That man? Makes me happy in my pants.
