Three things about last night's Doctor Who

I found it quite disappointing, particularly considering that Mark Gatiss wrote it.  It had plot holes worthy of RTD, though I did quite enjoy the Independence Day homage.  Referencing big/classic films seems to be a 'thing' for New Who.

The new Daleks remind me of the new Fiat Panda: chunkier and brighter than the original, but basically the same*.  Though they seem slightly more sophisticated than the originals: I thought the whole lighting-up-London to make it a clear target was quite subtle, for Daleks.

Amy is lovely and everything, but is she going to save the day with her down-to-earth common sense while the Doctor flails in every episode?  Because it's starting to get a bit tired already.

* I was going to put up pictures to illustrate my point, but Fugly the puter isn't playing ball.  In the meantime, Wikipedia has pictures. Also posted at Dreamwidth. Please comment either here or there.
