I've been a bit hooked on the BBC's Aintree coverage for the past three days - not having Channel 4 or any satellite sporty channels, I rarely if ever get to see racing on telly, and it's made me quite excited.
I'm not really a big Grand National fan - 20 horses is tight on that course, and 40 is just silly; of course there are going to be accidents - but I've had a flutter (or two) and am quite looking forward to it. Not looking forward to Himself sitting next to me making noises about how cruel it is etc. There is no defence of the GN in terms of the number of horses, but I don't generally believe that horse racing is cruel (except when individuals involved in it are cruel, and that's true of anything).
(Also, does anyone know what the theme music is for the BBC's coverage of Aintree? It's driving me nuts - I know I know it but I don't know why!)
The weather is being strange today. Bright sunshine interspersed with showers of frozen rain. Not hail - frozen rain. I have no idea if that's an actual meteorological phenomenon, but it's definitely an actual thing, particularly when it's landing on your head. We're promised snow for tomorrow, though they haven't got it right yet this year so I'm not holding my breath. Mind you, I have an assignment deadline and a useful lecture on Monday so we're bound to get snowed in...
I knew things were going too smoothly, car-wise. The Husband's car overheated yesterday and appears to have a blocked radiator. I have no idea how bad that is, but if it involves replacing the radiator, the labour costs alone are going to be ouchy. Sigh. Just when we think things are getting to be within the range of hopeful, we're shat on from a great height...
