Well I've survived my first week of cosmetology school. It's pretty fun so far. There's some book work, some hands on stuff. My favorite part so far would have to be on Thursday when I was getting a pedicure from a fellow classmate, when it stuck me: I'm in school, and I'm getting a pedicure- Nice!
Of course, that's not a regular thing at all. I will mostly be GIVING the pedicures and manicures from now on- but it's all good.
A couple things that I did not expect:
- Homework. Yuk! Yeah- I've had homework every night this week. First day of class we were assigned to read a 23 page chapter. I wasn't expecting that. Oh well- it's only for the first 8 weeks, then we'll mostly be doing hands on stuff.
- We started working on real live people already. Of course, it's just our friends. But yesterday we did pedicures and manicures all day.
- I enjoy doing nails. We haven't learned how to do artificial nails yet- but we learned spa manicures and pedicures (they're an hour long and involve lots of rubbing). But I thought I would be grossed out by touching other people's feet- I'm really not!
And now- a couple of things that I DID expect:
- Some girls who are in beauty school are stupid. Now, I'm not talking about ALL of them- or even the majority of them- just some. Example:
Instructor: (to class) Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself, like why you decided to attend cosmetology school.
Dumb Girl: Well, I tried college and that didn't work out. I don't like books...or reading. Reading isn't "for me". (proclaimed in an oddly proud way)
Okay!!
- I am one of the oldest people in my class. There's 20 of us and I believe there are two people older than me. It's okay though, the majority of the girls are pretty mature- so it's all good. None-the-less, I don't think I'm going to pick up too many "drinking buddies" out of this crowd.
Other than that, all is well. In a month or two I will be working out on the clinic floor and ya'll can call and make an appointment with me! I will be getting little business cards- so there will be one for everyone. Jordan says that I don't get to do his hair until after I graduate- too bad for him- cause I will be jackin' my prices up! Hah- probably not. But anyhow- wish me luck!
