Engineering

In school, we learn how to design a box. But the teachers always tell us: in real life buildings are never boxes. WELL!
I just finished my first piece of engineering for the real world, as in actually for a client and actually getting paid for it. It was indeed a BOX! All I had to do was design the nailing for the shear panels, the hold-down sizes, and the type of lumber for the headers. The rest was all just standard specifications. Of course, it still took me 3 hours, because I had to constantly go to my dad for help and I was always trying to over-design things, but still.
I definitely learned a lot, and I reinforced what I already knew. It's amazing how much I had forgotten since my loadings class.
