JAPAN 6: Sex and the Shrine (get it?)
I`m improving a lot at GO. I have actually been giving David a run for his money when he gets too bold. Apparently, based on ratings at local GO clubs (as in not on the internet) David is around 3rd Dan. After playing with him, I can see why.
So anyway, the last 3 evenings for dinner we have been going down to the market, buying about 10 dollars each of anything that looks delicious, and then taking it home and eating it. Last night we caught Back to the future 2 on TV, and tonight we caught part 3 (awesomeness). It`s very wierd watching those in Japan, with Japanese subtitles.
So today we took a trip to Uwajima. We took the wrong train, so it took 3 hours instead of 1 1/2. But it was nice because the route we accidentally took took us along the coastline, which was beautiful. I wish we had gotten more pictures... we weren`t fast enough. It was just a glimpse of beauty between tunnels.
So in Uwajima, we only had time for one thing, and we chose the Sex/fertility shrine/museum. The shrine part was awesome, and featured a 10 ft long giant wooden intricately carved phallis. The museum had sex pictures, carvings, and writings from all over the world, and many of them fairly ancient. It also had an amazingly large collection of dildos. For the most part it was entertaining, although parts of it were downright creepy.
On our way back, David split from us and took a train to Tokyo. We`re going to be on our own for about a week or so...
Incidentally, tomorrow we are going to try and take a look at this:
