When you live on an island, stuff happens

Aug 11, 2017 08:46

For example, the crossing from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island is down to one boat: the Salish is out with rudder trouble for the foreseeable future.

K. and B. were spared dealing with this nuisance, as their friends' wedding was the weekend of the 28th. They were married at this lovely place - we drove past it last weekend on our way north - and ( Read more... )

I'm very glad you have a dentist who *listens* to you, and is prepared for your visits. I'm sorry this visit was so fraught.

And I wish there had been no family upset--give P our love.

Well, you *would* go live on an island. Maybe you guys need to invest in some other mode of travel. Helicopter? Commuter plane? I can't see making a crossing in a small motorboat, though. Lessee, time travel? TARDIS for real? No, I get that ferry nonsense is part of the island experience. Inconvenient, but keeps things interesting in the long view.

We're hoping OH gets the dining room shelf unit up before his 8.28 departure. Organizing and filling that, and the walk-in closet cull and reorg should keep me out of the pool halls while he's gone!

why can't they use lasers whyyyyyyyyy

I swear, the noise is half the provoker of anxiety. But it's done, flossing is happening, everything else is okay. I am scheduling a massage, though.

P. thanks you both and says he is glad that his friends are sane, for values equal to "less likely to do stuff that will get them arrested, or to expect someone else to clean up after".

Well, the house was here, the island was a gift with purchase! The patio is being buzzed by hummingbirds today, it's amazing. If there's a TARDIS for real, can there be a Peter Capaldi-era Doctor with it? I HAVE BEEN SO GOOD, FU.

Is there a firm date, then? And getting up and moving around doing something different is good for your muscles, so that doesn't entirely rule out the pool halls . . . .

I rather envy your island life despite the drawbacks. Having all one needs at hand, who cares about a canceled ferry or 20.
;)
The farm/B&B you link to looks lovely!

Ah dental stuff...I have no issues but feel so for those who do. It is not pleasant to have those reactions. I'm glad you go through it all.

Some shopping is a bit limited - if I wanted a piece of original artwork, there are studios and galleries all over the island; packet of underpants? It's Amazon, driving to Silverdale or taking the ferry over to Seattle. But really, how often do you need to buy underpants?

The skies over the inn are doubtless lovely at night; it's well off the main roads, in a very quiet part of the valley.

Two of those fillings were at least 40 years old, so well past time to have them out; I only realised there had been background discomfort from the heat/cold response when it stopped. As it wound up breaking a tooth on the other side, it's a relief to have it over with!
