Movie Review: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (2024)
An excellent documentary. The film chronicles the life of the late star, covering his friendship with Robin Williams and wrenching details about his care and family. From Juilliard-trained actor to leading disability and research advocate. Friends Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg and John Kerry offer their observations. Reeves had 4 kids and a wife Dana Reeve. With unwavering support, she cared for her husband. She died of cancer in 2006, just 18 months after him. Christopher Reeve said of his dad: “I could never do anything to impress him...It was difficult to be myself, or literally breathe easy, when he was around.” Christopher Reeve was also an athlete. Close said: “I’ve always felt if Chris was still around, Robin would still be alive.” Reeves was doing TV movies to pay the bills. His round-the-clock care at home cost $400,000 annually, with a $1.2 million lifetime insurance cap. Reeves declined and died in 2004. Sad.
