PMX Cosplay Pictures (includes some pretty cool stuff)
One week after the last con I attended, I went to another one, though just for one day.
I figured I was already taking a bunch of time away from work due to the Manga Next trip, so I only went for one day. I sort of wish I did the full weekend, but I'm also pretty sure I did make the right decision. I went Saturday, mainly because that's when UCLA's anime club was doing their group trip. Though since they were heading to the con too early and returning from the con too early, the only time I really spent with UCLA people was lunch.
whitelilacs had asked if I could take photos of her Shugo Chara group. Watching the show, I noticed they use a sort of wrap-light effect a lot. So, Friday I did
some experiments on myself to get the basic effect. I could do it with umbrellas. But, I had too much to carry anyway, so I didn't bring umbrellas, so I'd have to rely on bounce. (Random side note: When I hear "Chippu shiroppu hoiippu" in the op song, I hear it as "cheap shot boyfriend")
Got to the con noon-ish I think. Tried to find
whitelilacs &
wintressrain but neither were there yet. Tagged around Minh & Co. Seems he's caught the strobist bug - he was there with a pair of alien bees triggered 430EX's. I used some of the subjects he was working with, though in slight different locations and with more dramatic lighting. (See the girls with guns left & right) In retrospect, I just through of a cool was to make the location he was using look much cooler. But oh well, too later. (i.e. would be to raise a light high, and rake it across the ceiling behind the subject, making a virtual strip light from the reflected light.) I to my photos too over the top. It's fun that way though. Lacking umbrellas, I relied on bounced light for soft lighting, which worked out very well.
Got a bit bored - ended up doing weird things like
photographing water. (In my defense, they're the coolest water coolers that I've seen.) Actually most of the con I was a little spaced out. Also missed out on a number of photos due to bad timing and indecisiveness. Wanted
travel_valenti together after finding out they were doing Baccano cosplay, but then Tom was away ogling downstairs or something. Wanted another Baccano couple, but though I'd get better pictures at night, and then didn't see them later :( Wanted Songstress Yuna + Vocaloid, but couldn't figure out where would be good to photograph them. Had some indecision on where/how to photograph
suguishi and her friend's D.Gray-man costumes. Fortunately I did get them. Favorite picture of that is at the bottom of this post. More in the full set. Unfortunately using bounced soft light limits my control of how much is lit, and had to do some extra editing on her pictures to hide people in the background.
Tagged around
qcamera,
evalime,
ycysusan,
evanae & co. a bit. Met
themarchingoboe. I'm a little worried I might have weirded her out, since I was staring at her a bit trying to figure out here I've seen her before. (Seems it was probably at AX while photographing Code Geass people.)
wintressrain showed up, also dressed as a doll, and I spent most of the rest of the con with her and her friend (Lawrence?). Mentioning not being sure where the pictures of me were going,
wintressrain did a photoshoot with my camera of me.
Though my favorite pictures I have my glasses on. (Maybe I should just declare them a part of the costume?) Since the bangs are a little short, she pulled my wig forward. I think I'm going to need to get a new wig (one with bangs built-in). Curiously the people from one of the other events at the hotel seemed fascinated with my wings. One cosplayed seemed weirdly fixated with the fact that I didn't have the headdress than she wears. (um...the whole costume was changed.) Then there was dinner,
wintressrain messing with my phone fake drunk-texting people (Including my mom! T.T). She has some Suigintou Caramel Dansen video. Then I did a photoshoot for her.
Whee, colored lights. More photos from that will be up soon. And shortly after, we left the con. No Shugo Chara shoot. Seems the group wasn't quite ready yet, and with the exception of some Amu x Ikuto, night I don't think suits the series well. I'm hoping maybe I can do that on campus at UCLA, since the location would work decently and it would be more relaxed. If not then, maybe ALA, but hint, hint: on campus is a better idea.
Basically it was a slow day but enjoyable.
