SGA Squee and Confusion!
Okay, I have both LOVE and CONFUSION for this episode. It was defined almost as much by what it didn't do as what it did do...anyway, on to the reaction!
Out of order as usual, since I have no TiVo and a memory like a sieve.
1. So we're apparently doing a series of elevator plays this season. This is fine with me because I love elevator plays.
2. Rodney's in one of his moods this week I see.
3. And down the rabbit hole we go. (I thought he got shot for a moment. I'm ashamed that I was disappointed that he just fell down a hole. *is sick h/c fan*)
4. They certainly spend a lot of this episode falling. I hurt myself when I fall from like three feet. These people are made out of rubber.
5. Is it me or is Rodney being more sexist than usual this week? And more dickish? Sorry Rodney, but I'm not loving you so far this week. John may be my new bestest boyfriend.
6. I give in, Rodney is canonically straight.
7. Though he would totally bang Jon Stewart.
8. I'm glad he played though, since they seem to be bashing us about the head with "Rodney likes women!". Apparently the writers realized John was 2/3 out of the closet and had a group heterosexual panic attack.
9. Sam doesn't like Zelenka? WTF? Did they not notice the sheer chemistry those two had? *is a sad Sam/Radek shipper* Also, that was worse than the ice cave from Solitudes? (and that's just the first SG-1 "trapped" scenario that came to mind...)
10. Rodney didn't notice he broke up with Katie? So why was he hitting on the girls in Harmony? I like the obliviousness but not the implication of cheating. Maybe this was one of the episodes that got shifted around out of order?
11. Grappling hook thing = stupid.
12. See, this thing with Sam was what I was afraid of when she joined Atlantis in the first place. Rodney making an ass of himself in front of her and her doing everything better. But she failed so that's ok.
13. Bar bet? Have we decided that Keller was a real human with a real social life? I thought she was miss little genius who had no friends. So was she going to bars alone to hustle easy money from marks with the cup-bridge trick?
14. I did like that everybody has ideas and none of them work.
15. Now we get h/c, after 40 minutes of taunting us with it, and it's the one character I pretty much don't give a crap about. I am more emotionally invested in Rodney's worry than in Sam's broken leg.
16. I need Rodney to stop talking about their bodies RIGHT EFFING NOW. I've just been dealing with too much sexist shit today to listen to him. Is he usually this bad? It feels worse than usual. Usually it's just foot-in-mouth, rather than outright assishness.
17. I forgive the grappling hook thing because it allowed Rodney to build a cannon. I also forgive the Sam-can-do-anything thing because the cannon a)worked b)went where it was supposed to and c) didn't kill anyone.
18. (I can no longer spell cannon properly. Canon, cannon, same thing...)
19. RODNEY WITH THE ROPE = LOVE. Courage, Rodney!
20. Rodney got to save Sam!
21. Did they actually build that set on hydraulics? It really seems like it. Awesome.
22. Rodney freaking out and Keller encouraging was very cute. I like that he thinks he should be all Rambo by now but he's not, and he knows he's not. Maybe that's what the hook thing was all about, rather than showing off for the women. He's trying to be what he thinks he should be. Aw, Rodney, we love you just the way you are!
23. Wait, Keller just asked Rodney out? Yet again: WTF? I admit to shipping Rodney/Keller an itty-bitty bit, because she seems to get him and indulges his hypochondria with fond exasperation, but clearly Ronon and Keller are meant to be so what the hell is this? Rodney and Jennifer had next to no chemistry that whole episode. Compare to Ronon and Jennifer who have had sparks since the first scene they were in together. I would have loved them going for a platonic celebratory beer, but the lines seemed to imply something else. Grr.
Whoever wrote this ep clearly does not watch the show....Wait, Martin Gero? THE Martin Gero? I...I...I don't understand. Martin usually gives good Rodney. (He also usually gives good Subtext). *is heartbroken*
Okay, I did squee a bit during the episode, so I'll try to recapture that...there were some cute team moments. I like the elevator play aspect. I like Rodney not bitching and waiting to die a la Quarantine. Keller's growing on me still. And yeah, the whole last part with the rope and the bleeding hands and the sheer *exhaustion* but refusal to quit...maybe there was some squeeing going on there.
I do feel the need for some tags though. *ponders*
ETA: Now that I've read other people's reactions, I realized that this post probably qualifies as squee-harshing. So don't read if you want your squee un-harshed.
