Weirdly, I'm very impressed with my advisor today.
I sat in on his meeting with a sales rep, and they wandered off into talking about some really cool future work, and Advisor kept busting out all these awesome workarounds and solutions to some key technical problems for Salesguy's next big system. It was pretty cool, all the "what about this, won't you broaden your pulse too much?" "yes, but with a Hillbert Transform you can correct for the high frequency cutoff", technobabble of Trekkian levels. Neat to watch.
Then I went to talk to him and he came up with a solution for the technical problem that's been plaguing me for a week or so (and I talked to other grad students who couldn't solve it either, so it's not just me).
Usually we think of him as just a boss, or as the guy who comes to lab and tweaks our mirrors and makes us homicidal, but I think we forget that he's damn good at what he does.
So yeah, I'm feeling weirdly proud. BIRGing, as Rey would say. Hooray science!
(Also, I'm done with Atlantis Season 3. I shall now go explode in a pile of awe.)
