So Teen Wolf happened
So the winner of my What Should I Watch post was Teen Wolf! I've now watched almost all of Season 1 (just the finale left) and I can safely say that FEELINGS HAVE OCCURRED.
Some (only slightly spoilery) reactions over the course of my watching:
1. Wow this is way better written/acted/directed than I expected. Teen Wolf has the absolute highest ratio of how good it is to how good you think it will be of any show I've ever encountered.
2. Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles
3. My friend has a large, very friendly, very stupid dog named Duffy. We have decided that Scott is in fact a WereDuffy.
4. I am planning to make a supercut of all Derek's (and other people's) sudden appearances. It never fails to make me burst out laughing. (If one exists please send it to me!)
5. STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILES
6. The casting on this show is so perfect. Ignoring the fact that Tyler Posey and Dylan O'Brien basically ARE Scott and Stiles, casting Tyler Hoechlin as Derek is inspired. He can pull off the gruff badass thing, but he's got such a vulnerable face that the gruffness seems not to really sit naturally on him, which makes you sympathetic to Derek long before the narrative really comes over to his side. Plus all the "grownups" are excellent and established actors, so you like Chris and feel creepy around Kate long before the plot gives you reason.
7. The plot hangs together so well. Every time my friend goes "but wait", I can go "NO THERE IS A REASON, JUST WATCH." After years of SGA and SPN this is so refreshing.
8. The characters are also handled so deftly. They establish Jackson as a massive douche, and then almost immediately set about humanizing him. Same with Lydia. The show expands beyond its high school stereotypes and I love it.
9. I feel so creepy but I want to put Dylan O'Brien in my pocket and take him home. HOW IS HE SO ADORABLE
10. FEELINGS EVERYWHERE. EVERYYYYYYYYYWHERE
11. I am constantly entertained at the absolute zero fucks Stiles give about whether Derek lives or dies. This is not stopping me from eating up Sterek fic like pie.
12. This show is 1/3 Twilight, 1/3 American Werewolf in London, and 1/3 French farce, with people dashing in and out of rooms and trying to maintain all the werewolf-hunter secret identities.
13. The primary, most consistent werewolf power is the ability to make bad life choices.
14. In conclusion, STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILES
